PSYCHOLOGICAL PROFILE

Much of Harley's personality is intertwined so intimately with the Joker, it cannot be separated.

She loved a little too much, and too unwisely. Harley was devoted to The Joker to the point of self-destruction. Her life centered and revolved around him, and she allowed him to continue with his harsh mental and physical abuse, believing he also loved her. She deluded herself into believing The Joker would one day marry her, and that all that was stopping him from doing this was The Batman, who she held as the source of The Joker's insanity.

Harley can be prone to extremely violent mood swings. When upset, Harley responds savagely, her fragile mental condition responding instinctively, where she will fly into frenzies and attempt physical harm, upon herself and others. She hides her obsessive and demented persona under a mask of playfulness and fun.

Despite her previously unstable mental state, she is by nature a kind, sweet and gentle person. She is loving and giving to a fault, she adores her 'babies' (two hyenas), and is skilled at making friends. Her relationship with Poison Ivy illustrates how even as a weaker personality who will willingly submit to a stronger character. Her loyalty and devotion make her a wonderful friend to have, and her sense of humor, while skewed, makes her a woman who is infinitely entertaining.

Harlene Quinzelle was a noted psychotherapist working at Arkham Asylum when she met the Joker. She was a serious woman, driven to help her patients recover. That all changed when her patient turned the tables on her. Over months of sessions, he got her to open up to him, instead of the other way around. He got her to laugh. He also talked about himself and her heart went out to him more than any patient she'd ever treated. It got to where she saw him not as a criminally insane madman, but a damaged little boy just searching for acceptance and love.

That was when she helped him break out. She changed her entire persona, giving up everything serious about herself and she devoted herself to Mistah J, jokes, and crime. She catered to his every whim. She participated in every one of his schemes, she was utterly devoted to him.

And then...she got caught. Locked up in Arkham herself, away from his influence, the therapy she received actually helped. She was still broken, still medicated, but at least she could see right and wrong. She realized what the Joker did was bad, was cruel, and was most definitely not funny. Having achieved this, she earned her sanity and her release.

Her first day out didn't go quite as planned. She went shopping for a new dress, but a series of mishaps, as well as previous experience, lead her to return to her Harley Quinn persona. Eventually brought to a halt by Batman, she was returned to Arkham, less for therapy and more for a slow reintroduction to social norms.

If allowed to remain in canon after this, Harley would fall back in with the Joker and become one of Batman's most dangerous female enemies. However, I'm taking her from this point so she can actually integrate into island society. She's rusty, but she ain't nuts.
